Colin Farrell fought hard to make the Penguin version smoke in The Batman (2022), but he failed

Plot

Following the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, makes a play to take over the reins of crime in Gotham. Aside from the bat signal in the final shot of the season finale, we never got ours. Robert Pattinson cameo in “The Penguin.” In this short video, IMDb attempts to answer: Where the hell was Batman? However, in his own series, the character is depicted as a casual smoker who prefers cigars.

Totally get the tone and mood

The DC Studios logo takes place on a rainy Gotham alley. The umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. With Graham Norton and guests: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024).

Amazing is the right word

Dirty, grimy, and dark, but Farrell manages to capture the charm of Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano. The Sopranos have similarities, especially in tone. There’s a lot that gets dark in this opening sequence, but there are still moments of comedy that fit the tone and don’t detract from it. Where do I start with Farrell.

And Farrell, as an actor, is completely immersed in the role

It’s great to see talented star actors take on roles like this, and the makeup/cgi or whatever they did to physically transform him into a penguin not only passes the eye test, but looks incredibly realistic. There’s always the risk that if the makeup work isn’t good enough or just a little bit worse, it can be a complete distraction. In Penguin, it adds to his performance and the overall quality of the show, because it’s a damn good job. I might be a little biased because he was one of my favorite actors before this show, but I think this will give him the praise he deserves.

I never tune in to new shows because I like to binge watch episodes at once, but I wanted to see how it really turned out. It didn’t disappoint, in fact it surprised me.
